Key points
1The truth is kindness even when it hurts, and hiding in the dark only leads to humiliation in the light.
Pastor TJ told the story of a fifth-grade haircut disaster covered in hair gel, and how the crosswalk guard Chuck lovingly told him the embarrassing truth. From this he drew three lessons: truth is kindness even when it hurts, whatever you hide in the dark will humiliate you in the light, and you are most vulnerable when you don't know who you are.

if you make yourself look good in the dark, you will be humiliated in the light
You are most vulnerable when you do not know who you are
2Satan's native language is lies, and he uses them as his chief strategy to kill, destroy, and deceive.
Working from John 8:44, Pastor TJ explained that the religious leaders opposing Jesus revealed whose children they really were. He noted Satan disguises himself as an angel of light and mimics the Trinity, attacking believers through three fronts: the world, the flesh, and the devil.
he is a liar and the father of all lies
3Satan tells three lies designed to rewrite your identity: the lie of the past, the lie of the present, and the lie of the future.
The lie of the past says you are too far gone and defined by your worst moments. The lie of the present says life is all about you, feeding pleasure and distraction. The lie of the future says you cannot change, echoing culture's claim that your desires are your fixed identity.
4Each lie has a corresponding gospel truth that answers it.
Pastor TJ countered the lie of the past by saying Jesus is a better savior than you are a sinner. He countered the lie of the present by warning that a life all about self ends in bitterness because we are not God. He countered the lie of the future by pointing to the God of transformation who calls the dead out of the grave and sets captives free.
Jesus is a better savior than you are a sinner
5Who you are is completely connected to who you belong to.
He illustrated this with a story of accidentally driving his dad's Mustang into a ditch as an 11-year-old, and how his father showed up, took responsibility, and declared 'he's old enough to drive my car.' That sense of belonging to a father who fights for you mirrors how God claims us as His own.

6Receiving Jesus gives believers a new identity as children of God, born not of human effort but of God.
Reading John 1:11-13, Pastor TJ showed that those who receive Jesus are given the right to be called children of God, born of God rather than by natural descent or human will. This new identity, he said, lets a believer stand at the gates of hell without blinking.
7Believers have a native language too: the gospel, and speaking it releases real spiritual power.
He shared a story of accompanying an elder to a home where a family believed a demon had been speaking through their six-year-old daughter, and how the elder simply prayed the name of Jesus and had Pastor TJ share the gospel using the four spiritual laws. As the gospel was proclaimed, the oppression visibly lifted and the family chose God.

8Believers cannot be possessed because their bodies are already a temple of the Holy Spirit, though they can still be oppressed.
Pastor TJ connected the tearing of the temple veil at Christ's death to the truth that the Holy Spirit now dwells in believers' bodies rather than in a physical temple. Because that temple is already filled with the Spirit, no other demon can dwell there, even though Satan can still oppress believers from outside.
9The four spiritual truths of the gospel answer every issue people bring to us.
He walked through the four truths again as a ready tool: we were created on purpose for a purpose, we are broken and sinful and separated from God, Jesus came to redeem broken and sinful people, and everyone must choose to accept or reject God. He urged the church to see these as their native language to speak into any hard conversation.

Application
Pastor TJ's charge is to stop believing the enemy's lies about your identity and start speaking the gospel as your native tongue.
Leave the lies at the altar
If you've believed you're too far gone, that life is all about you, or that you can't change, name that lie today and trade it for the truth of who you are in Jesus.
Get into a gospel conversation this week
Look for someone in your life who is struggling and share one of the four spiritual truths with them rather than staying silent.
Choose God if you haven't yet
If you're not sure where you stand with Jesus, pray the prayer of receiving Him as Savior and start the journey of following Him.
Take a next step in discipleship
If you responded today, text your name to the church number so you can get connected to a small community that will help you grow in your new faith.
Take it into your week
